Volunteer Opportunities From: University of California, Riverside

Volunteer: Cards for Seniors: Family Service Association in Riverside County

Who:   Family Service Association delivers meals to community seniors who are unable to get out of their homes due to illness, incapacity, disability or restrictions from COVID-19. Seniors, who live in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, will appreciate a cheerful greeting card along with their meal. We are looking for about 3,000 cards.

What:  Cards with artwork, designs or crafty graphics are appreciated.  It is OK to use stickers, decals or other craft supplies that adequately stick to the card.  (Please NO glitter or confetti.)  Adults, teens or children can make the cards.

When:  Cards can be created at your home on your schedule. We are hoping to have cards in hand by December 31 and another group by March 31 to distribute to our nutrition sites.

Greeting: Cards may have a simple greeting (such as Have a Great Day, Thinking of You, A Smile from My House to Yours, You’re Amazing, etc.) or a philosophical quotation. These are NOT Get Well cards.  They are to cheer up seniors who may be even more alone during COVID-19.

Size: Any size card is good that is not larger than an 8½” X 11”sheet of paper. (2 cards or 4 postcard-size cards made from one 8 1/2” X 11” sheet is great.) No envelope is required.

Signing cards: If you like, you may sign your FIRST NAME or the name of your GROUP but do NOT include personal information about yourself (address, etc.)

Other items: We have some Spanish-speaking clients, so bilingual cards are also needed.  Bookmarks are also appreciated and Crossword/Sudoku magazines.

Supplies:  We do not have a budget for this project nor for shipping. Any items around your house may be used. We appreciate your time and generosity and can give you a donation receipt if needed for supplies and shipment.

Where to Deliver:  Contact me [Kathy.Knox@fsaca.org or (951) 275-5055] for delivery to our main site or to determine the closest center near your location.  We are located in Southern California and would love your help. If you are NOT in Riverside or San Bernardino counties, you would need to send your cards via USPS, FedEx or UPS at your cost to the address below.  Many thanks for your support!
