At Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire, we grant life changing wishes to children with critical illnesses. Interns for Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire give of their time and talents to help create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

 

All of our internships are unpaid; however, in return for their hard work and dedication, our interns receive valuable training, knowledge, hands-on nonprofit work experience, a chance to meet others, and the gratification of making a difference in the life of a child. Academic credit can also be provided for students (specific criteria/requirements of the student’s educational institution apply). All interns must be a current undergraduate or graduate student (over the age of 18) with excellent written and oral communications skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to multitask and maintain confidentiality, computer proficiency, and a passion for the work of Make-A-Wish.

 

Volunteer Services Intern will assist our Volunteer Services Coordinator in all aspects of volunteer management, including but not limited to meeting with wish families, planning wish reveals, and local events, MAWOCIE has over 350 volunteers that make our mission possible.

 

Internship Responsibilities:

Assist with onboarding new volunteers and interns by creating files and updating contact information Invite potential volunteers to interviews and trainings Contact volunteers by telephone, or email about upcoming opportunities (wish, event, office, etc.) Help with volunteer engagement/recommitment initiatives Assist in meeting, trainings and event preparations

 

o    Internship Qualifications:

Strong project management skills and customer service skills

Public Relations Intern will assist with public relations efforts of Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire while further developing skills in public relations, brand management, and written and oral communications.

 

Internship Responsibilities:

Content creation including but not limited to Make-A-Wish OCIE 40th Anniversary, general fact updates, graphics, and photos Crafting and posting on social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube when applicable Content creation for chapter website Crafting news releases and media alerts in association with Make-A-Wish OCIE initiatives and events focusing on the 40th Anniversary Communicate with city officials regarding Make-A-Wish OCIE 40th Anniversary

 

Internship Qualifications:

Must be working towards a college level degree Marketing, Communications, or Public Relations major preferred Strong project management skills and customer service skills Ability to work independently Familiarity with Canva and Adobe graphic design software Minimum of 16-hour work week preferred

Answer phones and provide excellent customer service Create instructional videos and Standard Operating Procedures Assist in meeting and presentation preparation Gather applicant information to update internal databases and provide status updates as needed Provide accounts payable and receivable support Help with staff engagement initiatives File and scan documents

 

Internship Qualifications:

Must be working towards a college level degree Office or nonprofit experience preferred Strong project management and customer service skills Ability to work independently Minimum of 10-hour work week preferred

Internship Responsibilities:

Create content and captions for social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube when applicable Assist with monthly newsletter by curating content for staff Wish House Bulletin and Wishful Thinking eNewsletter Manage media on SharePoint by uploading photos and labeling content Assist with event marketing for Pickleball for Wishes and The Make-A-Wish Gala Research photos for events look book Research sponsors and add handles to the Social Media Plan Assist with communication efforts for the 40th Anniversary Assist with translating content into Spanish, if applicable

Social Media Intern will assist creating and developing content and social management.

 

Internship Responsibilities:

Assist with developing content, including text, images and videos, to showcase wish stories, events and fundraising initiatives  Assist in creating and maintaining a social media calendar to schedule posts and campaigns strategically  Track key social media metrics, analyze performance data and evaluate the success of campaigns and strategies  Support marketing campaigns and fundraising initiatives by leveraging social media channels effectively  Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team and other departments to ensure cohesive branding and messaging across all platforms  Stay up to date with the latest social media trends, tools and best practices to continuously improve our social media strategy 

 

Internship Qualifications:

Must be working towards a degree  Proficiency in various social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube  Ability to think creatively and develop engaging social media content  Basic skills in photography and video editing are a plus  Detail-oriented and collaborative Minimum of 10-hour work week preferred

Interns will gain valuable knowledge about the development process in a local nonprofit as well as strengthen affinity to the Make-A-Wish OCIE mission.

 

Internship Responsibilities:

Assist in event and project management Assist in auction coordination for events Learn the development and fundraising aspects that set non-profit events apart Design creative touches to enhance guest experience Conduct research and outreach related to major projects, campaigns and fundraising events Support communications and marketing related to events

 

Internship Qualifications:

Must be working towards a college level degree Business, Hospitality, Marketing, or Public Relations major preferred Strong project management and customer service skills Ability to work independently Collaborative, detail-oriented and creative Minimum of 16-hour work week preferred

Wish Granting Intern will have the opportunity to experience the mission of Make-A-Wish OCIE by directly contributing to the wish planning process. This position works first-hand with our VP of Mission Delivery and Wish Granting team and when permissible, with our wish kids and their families.

 

Internship Responsibilities:

·      Assist with the planning and coordinating of wishes

·      Arrange travel accommodations such as transportation and hotels

·      Coordinate with outside vendors/companies for wish assistance

·      Prepare wish itineraries

·      Contacting families, volunteers and medical staff as needed

·      Faxing and mailing documentation

·      Input, manage and track all wish related data

·      Create and close wish kid files

 

Internship Qualifications:

·      Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team

·      Must work a minimum of 6-8 hours per week
