Join Tree People's MLK Day of Service project to help with tree care at Lincoln Park located in Eastside Riverside. Join this Tree Care event to become informed on how to properly do care and maintenance to ensure that our shade trees grow to be healthy for years to come. Lincoln Park has around 30+ trees that you will be caring for. Volunteers will help dig holes for the trees, install stakes and ties, and provide mulch and water for them.
In the past Tree People has collaborated with UCR to plant 35 shade trees at Bordwell Park in honor of Dr. King! This event will be a part of Tree People's Riverside TCC Grant where they have now planted 1,000 trees and will be distributing 1,000 fruit and shade trees.
Please be sure to complete Tree People's Volunteer Sign Up Form before arriving to the park!
Things to keep in mind:
All volunteers for all projects will check-in at 8am at the R’ Garden in Lot 30 at UCR to ensure they fill out a waiver, get a t-shirt, grab water and snacks, and check in with their project lead. We will also be giving out some t-shirts (first come, first served). From there we will all head out to our respective project sites to volunteer from 9am-12pm. All volunteers are expected to check in at the R’ Garden first, before heading off to your service projects locations.
Volunteers are asked to wear sturdy and comfortable closed-toe shoes with good traction, long pants that cover the whole leg, and dress in layers in case it is cold. Hats to provide shade, sunscreen, and sunglasses are recommended. Individuals sensitive to allergies (such as insect bites, pollens, etc.) should bring their medication. All necessary tools/materials will be provided. All volunteers must sign the Project #6 Voluntary Waiver in order to participate. For some sites, your project lead will have an additional waiver for you to sign the morning of service. Please make sure to use the restroom before arriving at the R’ Garden as there is no restroom at the garden, and there may not be one at your project sites. Finally – we are serving our community on this day to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. If you are signing up to serve on this day, you are signing up to commit your time and respect to the communities that we are serving. All volunteers are expected to be respectful while volunteering and committed to the work. Unless you have a specific circumstance or emergency, you will be expected to stay the entire time.
