Lake Evans, located at Fairmount Park, is a large lake utilized for sailing and fishing. It is one of two lakes at Fairmount Park—a 250 acre park that is one of the 51 parks in the City of Riverside. The lake is always in need of extra hands to help keep it clean, beautiful and accessible to all. Volunteers for this project will be asked to walk the perimeter of the lake and pick up debris/trash/clutter.
Transportation will be provided to all participants who sign up for this project. Volunteers will be picked up at UCR's lot 30, dropped off at the project site, and picked back up and taken back to UCR's lot 30.
All volunteers for all projects will check-in at the R’ Garden in Lot 30 at UCR at 8am to check-in, ensure they filled out a waiver, get a t-shirt, grab water and snacks, and check in with their project lead. From there we will all head out to our respective project sites to volunteer from 9am-12pm. Please keep this in mind as all volunteers will be expected to check-in there first, before going to do service.
Things to keep in mind:
Volunteers are asked to wear sturdy and comfortable closed-toe shoes with good traction, long pants that cover the whole leg, and dress in layers in case it is cold. Hats, sunscreen, and sunglasses are recommended. Individuals sensitive to allergies (such as insect bites, pollens, etc.) should bring their medication. All necessary tools/materials will be provided. All volunteers must sign the Project #6 Voluntary Waiver in order to participate. Finally – we are serving our community on this day to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. If you are signing up to serve on this day, you are signing up to commit your time and respect to the communities that we are serving. All volunteers are expected to be respectful while volunteering and committed to the work. Unless you have a specific circumstance or emergency, you will be expected to stay the entire time.
